Today, SWAG and the CHILD Center honored Joan Canton, one of our SWAG co-founders and the visionary behind SWAG’s work as we announced that the new playground that is about to be built at the CHILD Center will be named in Joan’s honor. There was so much love in the room today.
Joan has worked tirelessly — even before SWAG was founded ten years ago — to make life better for her community, especially for mothers and their children, many of whom she has personally taken under her wing, connecting them to needed resources and a better life.
When you look around at the beautiful CHILD Center and the children the CHILD Center serves, and you visit the SWAG Family Resource Center or the SW Health Clinic, know they are Joan’s vision. She is an inspiration to so many, and we are so proud to call her our friend.
We thank Joan’s daughters and grandchildren for sharing Joan with SWAG all these years. The world is a better place because of Joan.
The SWAG Team is grateful for Joan’s leadership, her vision, and her lifetime of caring, and we can’t wait to have her cut the ribbon on the playground when it is finished!
Here’s to strong women like Joan. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.
