  • Highlights From May 2021
    May 2021 was another exciting month for SWAG. We hosted two vaccination events in collaboration with the UF Mobile Outreach Clinic. Also, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted unanimously to name a portion of SW 61 Street and SW 8 Avenue in honor of SWAG’s visionary, Joan Canton.
  • BoCC aprueba el nombramiento de Joan Canton Way
    In May 2021, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) unanimously approved the naming of Joan Canton Way. As a result, the portion of SW 61 Street and SW 8 Avenue between SW 20 Avenue and Tower Road will display the name of SWAG visionary Joan Canton.
  • ¡Abril de 2021 fue bueno para SWAG!
    Lots happened for SWAG this month! Capoeira students had a special belting ceremony honoring their hard work. Family Resource Center patrons participated in an employability workshop a Community Job Fair. SWAG also raised $5,750 through The Amazing Give. Community Dinner was a success. And finally, the SW Health Clinic began offering COVID-19 vaccines.

    This article describes some of the resources available to Alachua County residents struggling to pay rent and/or utilities. This includes rental assistance, legal help, ways to lower energy bills, and more. For those seeking to help improve equitable housing in our community, there is a non-exhaustive list of a few local organizations you could contribute to.

Provide Input About School Rezoning: PTA Survey

The Alachua County School Board is planning a district-wide, comprehensive rezoning for all school levels in the next few years. The goal is for the changes to take effect during the 2022/2023 school year. As a result, many families in Alachua County may be zoned for schools that are different from their current schools. Complete ACCPTA’s rezoning survey to share your thoughts confidentially.

Available Now: Federal Program to Help Pay for Broadband Internet

Need help paying for monthly broadband Internet? If so, a new federal program may be able to help and is accepting applications. You likely quality if any of the following applies to your household:

  • SNAP/EBT
  • Free or reduced-price school lunch
  • Medicaid
  • Income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines
  • Lost substantial income during the pandemic
  • And more!

For a limited time: FREE medical services for children at the SW Health Clinic

¿Está su hijo incluido en la brecha del seguro? En otras palabras, ¿su hijo no califica para Medicare/Medicaid nor receive private insurance coverage? If so, we have funding to provide basic physicals and basic dental checkups and services for children at the clinic. This funding is only for children, and the services must be performed at the SW Health Clinic. Undocumented children are eligible to receive these services!
