  • Community Connections and Joan Canton Way Road Naming Celebration
    On Saturday, August 28, 2021, SWAG paid tribute to our visionary Joan Canton. The day’s celebrations started with a Road Naming Ceremony in her honor, followed by a Community Connections resource fair. Read on for a summary and photos of the event!
  • Highlights From July 2021
    SWAG has been so happy to support our kids’ learning this summer. Summer Session was a success with food, fun, and field trips. Summer SOAR provided intensive academic support to students after a difficult school year. We installed new picnic tables behind the building. And finally, we got ready for our back-to-school backpack giveaway.
  • Back-to-School Day 2021
    One of our favorite times of the year is back-to-school. Annually, we work to get our kids off on the right foot for the school year with beautiful backpacks filled with school supplies. This year we once again took precautions against the spread of COVID-19. However, despite these challenging circumstances the event went very well!
  • June 2021 In Review
    June 2021 was a month in transition as we celebrated the end of a difficult school year and worked toward overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. SWAG’s Homework Help program brought some summer festivities to the SWAG Family Resource Center. Additionally, we partnered with UF’s Mobile Outreach Clinic to bring vaccines to Majestic Oaks and Tower Oaks.

Take Stock In Children is a scholarship and mentoring program for middle and high school students. Learn how to apply AQUÍ!

They will be conducting a Program & Application Review & Completion Event for parents and students. Specifically, the event will include:

  • Information about the Take Stock Program
  • How the scholarship works
  • Requirements
  • One-on-one assistance with the application

Dates: Wednesday, September 22nd & Thursday, September 23rd (You will only need to attend one day)

Time: 6:00pm-7:30pm

Location: The Education Foundation of Alachua County (2802 NE 8th Ave Gainesville, Fl 32641) in Classroom B

  • 1040 Tax return (Most recent); or, if you do not file taxes:
    • TANF letter of approval

  • Free/Reduced lunch eligibility form
  • HUD eligibility form

Get a Vaccine, Receive a Gift Card!

During the month of September, the Alachua County Commission is offering gift cards for vaccines at the Health Department and participating locations! Visit THIS LINK for more details.

Anyone, regardless of age, can register to the waitlist for a COVID-19 vaccine. As new executive orders are signed, invitations for appointments are updated.

For more information on how to register, contact ACHDVaccine@flhealth.gov. Alternatively, you can call (352) 334 -8810, Monday-Friday 8am-8pm, except on state-observed holidays.

Provide Input About School Rezoning: PTA Survey

The Alachua County School Board is planning a district-wide, comprehensive rezoning for all school levels in the next few years. The goal is for the changes to take effect during the 2022/2023 school year. As a result, many families in Alachua County may be zoned for schools that are different from their current schools. Complete ACCPTA’s rezoning survey to share your thoughts confidentially.

Available Now: Federal Program to Help Pay for Broadband Internet

Need help paying for monthly broadband Internet? If so, a new federal program may be able to help and is accepting applications. You likely quality if any of the following applies to your household:

  • SNAP/EBT
  • Free or reduced-price school lunch
  • Medicaid
  • Income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines
  • Lost substantial income during the pandemic
  • And more!

For a limited time: FREE medical services for children at the SW Health Clinic

If so, we have funding to provide basic physicals and basic dental checkups and services for children at the clinic. This funding is only for children, and the services must be performed at the SW Health Clinic. Undocumented children are eligible to receive these services!
