This year, SWAG, the SWAG Family Resource Center, the SW Health Clinic, and the Preservation & Enhancement district worked together to put on two amazing events to help the kids in the SWAG neighborhoods get ready for the school year. The first was a “Step Up to Kindergarten Event” where kindergarteners could receive a back pack, get vaccines and physicals, and register for school. The second (on Aug. 15) will be a “Back to School Bash” where families can come together, enjoy a cook out, celebrate their students, and kids 1st-12th Grade can also receive back packs. As you can see from the pictures, the kindergarten event was a huge success, and we expect the event for the older kids will be too! In total, we will be giving away around 250 backpacks, stocked with all the supplies the kids will need for the first day of school! None of this could have been possible without the generous donations of Infinite Energy, Tower Hill Insurance Group, Trinity United Methodist Church, the Greater Gainesville Rotary Club, and Abundant Grace Church, who collected the supplies, and the support of our elementary schools (Chiles, Hidden Oak, and Terwilliger) and the health department. Many thanks to everyone that was involved! Pictures from the second event will be coming soon!
