A Walking Trail Near Linton Oaks is Nearly Finished!

Yesterday, we were thrilled to realize the walking trail around the new retention pond in Linton Oaks is nearly complete. We wanted to share our excitement and thank our county commissioners and county staff for making this a reality. We can’t wait for an official opening.

As she has for a decade, our SWAG Vice-Chair Joan Canton planted a seed and asked for the trail during planning for the construction of improvements to reopen SW 8th Ave. Our commissioners immediately embraced her vision. In addition to this natural area that will serve as a retention area and natural recreation area, the neighborhoods will also have sidewalks from SW 24th all the way to Tower Road.

This walking trail will make the community so much more livable with off-road walking for families and seniors. A general clean-up after the construction and some benches will make this a beautiful new open space for our SWAG neighborhoods.

A side bonus: This beautiful recreation area is right across the street from the CHILD Center, and one day soon our young students will be able to walk across the street and take a nature walk. This is just a block from the SWAG Family Resource Center. Together with our community partners, we’ve all helped to transform this area into a more walkable, more livable community.

Thank you, Ken Cornell, Robert Karl Hutchinson, Marihelen Wheeler, Charles Chestnut, and Mike Byerly. And huge thanks to county staff for making this happen. You all are the best. ❤️
