- Black History Month: February 2021 Community Bulletin BoardFebruary is Black History Month, and we’re celebrating the many accomplishments of the Black community. On this month’s community bulletin board, SWAG intern Cyrus Santiago highlights a few people who are not often mentioned. These people are leaders who broke through societal norms and paved the way for others.
- The February 2021 Calendar is Available for DownloadYou can now access the February 2021 calendar from the Family Resource Center page. Some featured events for this month include the Community Dinner on February 18, HeadStart on-site enrollments on Mondays, and assistance from DCF Access Services on Thursdays. Unemployment applications and Family Court packages are available for pickup.
- Glaucoma Awareness: January 2021 Community Bulletin BoardGlaucoma is a group of diseases that affect one’s eyes. It can cause blindness if left untreated. 2.7 million people in the United States have it, and half of them don’t know. African Americans age 40 and above and all adults age 60 and above–especially Mexican Americans–are at higher risk.
- School Rezoning: Make Your Voice Heard!The School Board of Alachua County is considering two plans for elementary school rezoning. Plan B does not affect SWAG residents, while Plan G closes Terwilliger Elementary and moves all of the children to the new School I on Parker Road/122nd. ACPS staff visited the SWAG neighborhoods in January to hear from residents.
