Last week, the SWAG Family Resource Center welcomed teachers, administrators, and families from Lawton Chiles Elementary School for a Family Fun Night. It was a festive night where families got to spend some time together while enjoying a relaxed dinner. They also got a chance to spend time with their students’ teachers and other educators. Everyone enjoyed games, fellowship, and pizza!
This year, SWAG and the SWAG Family Resource Center, together with the Preservation and Enhancement District, the Alachua County Sheriff’s office, and Rotary, provided Thanksgiving meals to 278 families. We are thankful for our partners, our residents, and all of the many wonderful things happening in our community – both on Thanksgiving, and throughout the year!
SWAG Family Resource Center recently hosted almost 75 individuals for a fall festival. Families enjoyed playing games, participating in a science experiment, making a craft to help increase visibility while trick or treating, and receiving prizes. The SWAG Family Resource Center recently hosted a Family Pumpkin Decorating Night. Over 50 kids and their caregivers participated. This event provided a safe, fun, and festive place for families to show their creative sides, as well as work together as a team to create pumpkin masterpieces!
On October 14, SWAG celebrated another milestone as the United Health Foundation announced that it had awarded a $1.85 million grant to the Alachua County Health Department for the operation of the dental facilities at the SW Health Clinic. This year, for the first time ever, the SWAG summer program included an end of summer field trip to Homosassa Springs to visit the manatees and learn about the springs and the animals that live there.
