Meet the SW Advocacy Group (SWAG)!
SWAG is a community-based organization that strives to improve living conditions, educational opportunities, and quality of life for residents in the Tower Road corridor just west of I-75 in the 32607 zip code.
We do this by securing the necessary funding and community partnerships to bring a resource center, playground and health services clinic to the SWAG area.
SWAG was created on February 12th, 2010 when a group of nine women came together to discuss their concerns for a cluster of neighborhoods in SW Gainesville, just outside of the city limits. The members of the group had been working in their own ways for years to raise awareness and bring services and support to the area, but it wasn’t until this fateful day that their efforts truly made the impact they were all waiting for.
Now a non-profit organization, SWAG has grown to more than 100 members and has accomplished goals well beyond anyone’s dreams. The group has partnered with more than 40 organizations to work toward creating a resource center, playground and health services clinic in the heart of the neighborhoods that need it most.
In the mean time, SWAG’s partnerships have brought holiday events including Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas gifts, books and school supplies to help SWAG children and their families during these special times of the year.
Some of our partners include our Alachua County Commissioners, Partners for a Productive Community, Sheriff Darnell and the men and women of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Rotary Clubs of Gainesville, Tower Hill Insurance Group, the Alachua County Veterans Advisory Board, Kiwanis Club, Altrusa Gainesville, the Alachua County School Board and our local schools, to name just a few.
The SW Advocacy Group is a grassroots non-profit organization focused on building community and providing services to those who need them in SW Gainesville.
“We’re taking a hands-on approach to our community.”
